Learning Centre

The Learning Support Centre The present Cullinane College Learning Centre has grown from simple beginnings and its journey has taken in a number of sites at the college from the humble to the hallowed. Cullinane College Learning Centre, which is amalgamated with Arahunga Special School is thriving and moving ahead as a positive place for teachers and students. How do we encompass the Special Character of the school in the Learning Support Centre? Within the Learning Support Centre we encompass the Special Character by • Seeing all students who come through the doors are treated as individuals. • By encouraging the students to work to their full potential. • By leading by example of basic values, respect for themselves respect for others acceptance for all guidance when needed guidelines that all can follow and respect, without being restrictive pride in themselves, work and abilities. The Learning Support Centre has become a vibrant and essential part of Cullinane College. We believe it is the right of every student to receive instruction commensurate with their ability to allow them to reach their full potential. We provide a safe environment for our students and work at building their confidence in our bright and colourful rooms. Students work in The Learning Centre for a variety of reasons and for a range of activities and subjects. Some come because they have special needs in one or more areas of development; others require literacy and numeracy support. Some students are enrolled with The Correspondence School for English and Maths and they are supported in their work by two Teachers and four Teacher Aides. All students continue to access other curriculum subjects in the mainstream as integration into everyday life of the college is the norm for these students except where their needs are better met through individual programming.
