Further Update on the Opening of School 2017

Wednesday 25th January 5pm

I thought I had better update our community on the progress to date with the issues we are currently experiencing at the College. I have yet to receive any update on the strategy for removing the asbestos. I was expecting that the report would be available today (Wednesday) and that a meeting would take place but despite my attempts no further information has been forthcoming. This is very disappointing as we urgently need to make decisions and inform our community regarding the opening of the College this year. At this point, it is school as usual next week until we tell you otherwise, however, I appreciate this is not the definitive decision I would like to provide you with. I am sorry I cannot give you any further information at this point.

On the other issues I alluded to in my previous communication, as of the end of Tuesday, we know have a functioning water and sewage system so no more holding on which is somewhat of a relief. However, we are still without the internet but the contractors were working on this today so perhaps it will be operational some time Thursday. The lack of the internet has made it particularly difficult communicating with our community. We are unable to answer emails at school during the day and so we apologise if parents are requesting information from us and we are not responding. Invariably, staff have to wait till they get home in order to check their emails and reply and so this is not particularly timely.

The College also looks somewhat untidy and unloved at the moment as without water the cleaners were not able to do any work in the last two weeks. Fortunately, they will be back on site Thursday. Many of the contractors have also left their equipment on site when it was closed down last week and so we also need to get them back to clean up and remove their equipment so we can ensure the environment is the best it can be for our students. We have much to do over the next few days so will rely on those great Catholic virtues of Faith and Hope.

I am hoping to post further information tomorrow.

Best wishes
